5 minute patch job!

I don't have a little girl, but my beautiful friend has three!  I can't wait for summer when I have more time to craft some amazing little girl stuff for them!  Anyway...she brought over a pair of leggings for me to patch up and I was super excited to put my new webbing to use!  It took about five minutes from start to finish to put these cute little patches on the leggings!  The zigzag stitching is pure decoration.  I am in love with how simple and quick this project was:
1. trace pattern.
2. cut webbing.
3. place webbing on fabric and cut to shape.
4. iron on pants (You can stop at this point)
5. Zigzag stitch for extra cuteness :)

Give it a try!

Spring Break fun

Waiting for the light rail.
Catching bubbles.
Spring break was WONderful!  Time to craft, sleep, play with Alec, and just be with God without the distractions of work life!  I took Alec to the Children's discovery museum with Heather and the girls...Alec loved it.  He kept talking about taking the train :)

Easter Sunday was beautiful and Alec had a successful hunt.  I am so thankful for our God and the love of Christ.  Romans 1:4-5 (NLT) says, "And he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit.  He is Jesus Christ our Lord.  Through Christ, God has given us the grace and authority as apostles to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name."  Praise God for his overwhelming love and sacrifice.

I was able to craft a bit.  Wall art fun:  The one on the left is done, but the one on the right still  needs some work.  It cost me about $6 in supplies to make each one!

Break is over...let's begin the countdown to summer!  Only six short weeks left!

What I've been up to...

Sewing, baking, living, and loving.  I spent three hours at the fabric store last Sunday and I felt like a kid in a candy store.  I finished my shirred spring dress that had been put off for the past month...or maybe two months.  I made a super cute apron (reminding me that patters are meant to be followed), and baked some delicious french bread!  I gave blueberry bagels a second try and they came out so much better that the first try! Pictures of all these things below.
Add aprons and dresses to the list of fundraiser items!  Let me know what you think!

Failed first attempt...though they tasted ok.

Much better second try :)

One of two fresh baked french loaves!
Awkward position photo credit...crazy but amazing teenagers (Ansley and Justin)

Apron!
My favorite part is the bow on the pocket.

displaying the flounce :)

Love the fabric.

The dress!  Love it!

Grandma taught me how to sew...

I have precious memories of sitting at my grandma's yellow glitter laminate 70's kitchen table watching her sew as the country music radio station played in the background.  She would be sewing away and I would just soak it all in.  It wasn't long before she was having me sew things of my own.  In fact, my barbie doll was the first to receive one of my sewing creation :).  I am filled with such nostalgia when thinking back on those summers at grandma's.  It wasn't until just the other day that I realized how much of her sewing ritual is reflected in me today.  Country music was playing in the background, Alec was playing with his army men through the scraps of fabric at my feet, and the rhythmic humming of the sewing machine was pulsing through the room.  Though my table is not retro yellow with silver glitter flakes throughout and my country music was playing on the computer rather than the old record player or stereo, much of my sewing ritual is the same.  It is in this way that I was taught how to sew, and in this way that I continue to do so.  I will always hold fast to the memories of my grandma's sewing, to the gentleness of her soft hands, to the love shown through all the small things.

Praying for my Uncle

God has tested and put me through trials and my heart has felt great pain only He can heal.  I gave a short "talk" at my churche's women's retreat this past weekend touching on the condition of the heart...the premises was removing all that prevents your heart from fully experiencing God.  As life presents emotional trials, I'm learning to cling to Christ and allow him to guide me.
Tonight I was brought to blog after quite some time away.  I was reading my emails to check for updates on my Uncle's condition only to find myself frustrated with the constant strikes of pain put in my path and the path of those in my family.  So, as I typically do, I began to write.  What was frustration turned into a poem for my uncle.  This is what I will share with you.

Forever Adored

There's always a smile on your face,
and a soft greeting, a warm embrace.
Never a judgment or ill word
only kindness filled, loving concern.
Care, gentleness and compassion relentlessly occurred.

Reflecting now on God's loving Grace,
how grateful I am for love you never misplaced.
My life, my heart, my soul concurred,
without your love, oh what my heart would fail to discern.
For your persistent care is ever so undeterred.

This world of pain can never efface
the love of Christ reflected in your life's race.
Reflections of your amorous ways will never be blurred
for genuine care, to you my heart will forever turn.
Of any one uncle, it is you always preferred.

Now my heart aches with pain from this life
and even more now to see you in strife.
Dear to my heart have I held you always.
An unfeigned love you've shown even in small ways.
For you my heart cries out and prays:
Dear Lord, Love him, heal him, keep him safe.

Please be in pray for my uncle as the doctors work to help him with his cancer.
Always,
~Briana
